Quick Skateboard Update

Oh yes, I meant to say that skating in the city is a LAUGH RIOT.
There is no sarcasm here. People respond so dramatically!
One guy said, "you actually ride that thing?" with scorn.
And I looked him in the eye and said, "yeah, I actually do."
Then mischeviously (couldn't help it), I said, "hey I have an idea. Why don't YOU ride it. I'll let you try it out."
He hemmed and hawed and said, "no, I mean, well, it's just that girls don't usually ride that kind of thing."
I just laughed and insisted. Told him I'd give him a lesson.
He waved me away with that "aw shucks" way of being and shook his head, laughing.
And what started as an insult was actually a point of connection.
Pretty cool.
But yes, I get everything from cool looks to disdain to laughter to ... well ... insults...
The BEST was in Central Square when a man did a low whistle at me (fellow skater)...not a whistle that was about me or my body (thank god) but which just said, "cool."
It was funny.
Annie, when you get up here, I will take you out for a slow sidewalk surf...
:-)
And I saw a fellow female rider the other day, too, which was cool. And she was on a long board. Rock on!
