The Small Things
Sometimes it is the small things--like buying a new hat--which make me most happy.
The other day I was working in the coffee shop, and I saw a very hip, very chic crocheted hat with flowers embossed on it.
I hesitated over the price tag; we so have no money.
But I bought the hat, which is skull capish and also flapper-esque and also keeps my head warm.
The hat just says "happy."
Also, I figured that buying it would support the local artist, who god knows needs support in this area, where it is HARD to be an artist.

Also today: I went shopping for a friend, who is having a baby, and I bought a spiritual book I love and also some really cute small things that bring such joy, one of which is a tiny baby doll that Kellen loves.

And...I graded a ton of papers and whirlwinded around and did laundry and tried to keep everything working...

I have not had time to knit lately, but I've been working on novel #2, hanging with Laura, which is such a blast (we are always laughing), grading, and spending time with the kids...

Aidan has been amazing me with his grown-up news: The other day he told me that I didn't need makeup because I wasn't that kind of woman. I said "what kind of woman is that?" He said, "a desperate one." I laughed and asked him to explain...He said, "you already have a husband so you don't need to wear makeup." It cracked me up...He is so grown up sometimes.
Just now, he suggested "Griffin" for the name of our future and distant bluetick coon hound dog, which we want to maybe someday have.
He said, "it is half man, half lion," you know. "You can look it up."
