Cool Kats: Skating with My Bros (or Sis Really)

So we went skating today.
My beloved sister is in town, so we ripped up some pavement and gleamed some cubes.
We had an impromptu skating session in the parking lot downtown...
All of us took turns: Brian, Donna, me, and Aidan.
It was fun!
We learned how to turn.
Donna was really graceful; I will post a picture later!
Brian was the surprise of this all: He is really good.
I mean really good.
He can turn and go FAST.
It's sort of interesting because he didn't grow up skating.
Aidan is learning...and is so daring: He's my mindfulfess teacher.
We also went to see my art work at the local gallery where some of my photographs and a painted table are for sale.
We skated over there...taking turns...
Even my mother got on the board (for all of a minute) but still.
We were a skating family.

It is interesting the reaction I get from people though.
Most of my really good friends are happy for me because they think skateboarding is fun and making me excited to learn something new.
Annie is my inspiration because we did have that dream about skating all around town and campus. And she's such a great model and teacher for me about living your dreams and being who you are...I love to think of her surfing in Hawaii because she is so joyful in her love for the sport and being in her body and playing.
But some people are really funny about the whole Skating Thing.
Every sport has its stereotypes, but the ones about skating are all wrong.
My mom has been really cute--totally accepting.
My sis too.
But one of my dear friends has bought into the whole stereotype about Skating Culture.
She can't believe I bought Aidan Heelies (shoes with wheels on the heels).
"They are so dangerous!" she exclaimed.
Heelies really haven't been dangerous; if anything Aid wishes they went FASTER.
It is kind of wild--this labeling of all things Skating-Related.

So today Donna and I were saying that we both want heelies.
I have this dream of us, heeling around San Fran when I go out there this fall.

For now though I'm just learning how to turn. And to stop.
And to let gravity do its thing.
